Meet Our Team
The Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run isn’t run by a full-time race organizer, event management firm, or big corporation. (And no, we’re not affiliated with Sheetz.) It’s actually fueled by a few ordinary (and slightly over-caffeinated) locals who love trails, teamwork, and Type-2 fun.
Celebrating the end of the 2023 race with military volunteers.
Like many mid-life crises, Chris’s began with mud, barbed wire, and a timing chip. After catching the bug for Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) in 2015, he went all-in—building his own 30+ obstacle course in King George to train for Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, Savage Race, and the OCR World Championships.
He’s run several ultras (RedEye 50K, Dam Yeti, Spartan Ultra), four marathons (Marine Corps Marathon, Richmond Marathon) and many half marathons including the Park-to-Park Half, Historic Half, Richmond Half, and Navy-Air Force Half. Through it all, his proudest running moments come from helping Ainsley’s Angels adaptive athletes take on trail runs and OCR events.
In 2018, after yet another run on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (DRHT), Chris threw out a wild idea on Facebook: “What if we ran from one Sheetz to another?” Twenty brave souls showed up. With generous support from Sheetz and King George County, that spur-of-the-moment idea evolved into the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run we know (and laugh through) today.
As Race Director, Chris’s four-point mission is simple:
Get people of all abilities outside and active.
Remind runners that “fun run” means fun.
Give back to the community.
Showcase King George County as a trail-running destination.
When he’s not planning races, you’ll find Chris behind a camera, tinkering in Home Depot, or designing new obstacles no sane person asked for.

Don alberto
Race Logistics Master
A retired naval officer and federal employee, Don is what happens when wanderlust meets spreadsheets. His adventure résumé reads like a National Geographic highlight reel: Everest Base Camp (Nepal), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mont Blanc (France), Huayna Potosi (Bolivia), Cotopaxi & Chimborazo (Ecuador), and a 52-mile trek across Iceland’s lava fields and glaciers. That’s how Don relaxes.
When he’s not climbing something insanely tall, Don keeps the Sheetz-to-Sheetz race running like a well-oiled aid station. As our Traffic and Safety Coordinator since 2023 and now our Race Logistics Master, his talents for organization and controlled chaos ensure race day is safe and enjoyable for all.
kevin biondi
Runner and volunteer advocate
If the DRHT had a mayor, it’d be Kevin. A long-time King George resident and retired software developer, Kevin traded staff meetings for long runs and cubicles for chainsaws. He’s all about the trail, serving as Treasurer for Friends of the DRHT, organizing events (King George Fall Festival Fun Run, Dahlgren Trailblazer Community Bike Ride), and volunteering countless hours to trail maintenance. He’s also finished the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run five times, making him the team’s resident expert on both aid-station snacks and post-race naps.
In retirement, Kevin has evolved into a full-blown endurance athlete, conquering everything from marathons to 12-hour ultras. As our Runner and Volunteer Advocate, he bridges the gap between participants and race staff—helping us keep the Sheetz-to-Sheetz experience as smooth as a fresh cup of MTO coffee.
